The present study was designed to investigate the effects of density on mortality, gonad growth and feed intake in adult green sea urchin (S.droebachiensis). For sea urchins with test diameter between 4.5-5.5 cm, it is not recommended to exceed a biomass of 1.5 kg sea urchins per chamber (evt compartment). This is equivalent to about 3 kg sea urchins per square meter. For larger individuals (test diameter5.5-6.5 cm), the biomass may be increased up to 3 kg per chamber, or 6 kg per square meter.
