Position Description

Salary:

Competitive according to qualifications and experience

Hours:

Full-time, working no less than 37½ hours per week

Reports to:

Dr Ross Houston, Director of Innovation

This position is part of Benchmark’s new Molecular Genetics programs, which focuses on developing optimised genotyping and genomics solutions for our internal breeding programs, and external genetic services. The postholder will contribute to implementing cost-effective genotyping solutions for genomic selection, parentage assignment, and assessment of genetic diversity. The postholder will also assist with initiating and delivering collaborative projects in key technologies to develop future genotyping and genomics solutions. Finally, the postholder will connect closely with the academic and industry research community to follow recent developments in the field of genomics and genotyping and ensure Benchmark is at the forefront of this field. This position will include both laboratory work and computational analyses.

Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • To develop and implement genotyping platforms for Benchmark’s internal breeding programs
  • To develop and optimise methods for cost-effective genotyping solutions for Benchmark Genetic Services
  • To contribute to R&D project targeting innovative new solutions for genotyping and other genomics technologies
  • To collaborate with external research partners in the field of genotyping and genomics.
  • To maintain detailed knowledge of the latest developments in genotyping technologies, to ensure Benchmark is at the forefront of this field

Requirements

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • A university degree in a relevant field
  • Experience and expertise in molecular biology and genomics

  • Teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Effective time management abilities
  • Flexible and able to travel nationally and internationally as required
