M/V Steyer undergoes major upgrade opening up new opportunities for de-licing treatment

Mechanical de-lice vessel M/V Steyer has undergone a month-long upgrade which now allows it to carry out treatments at farms with only single source pens.

The work carried out at Cflow Fish Handling AS in Langevåg included the installation of a new slide to carry fish back into the same cage they are taken from for treatment. The 8-line Hydrolicer system has also been improved with state-of-the-art new control functions and cameras.

Arne Wråli, managing director of Aqua Pharma’s vessel arm Haugaland Shipping AS, explained more about the new equipment:

– The new slide is an extension of the original system where the fish were taken from their original pen for treatment and returned to a new pen on the starboard side.

Customers now have the choice of whether the fish should be returned to the same pen or to a new one and we can also offer treatment options to farms with only single source pens which we weren’t able to access previously.

- All our crews on board are fully trained in fish welfare and in the external and internal washing and disinfection of the treatment system. M/V Steyer is manned to de-lice fish 24 hours a day with an operator and two people on deck on each shift. In addition, our onboard fish health biologist will ensure the highest standard of fish welfare during the treatment.

As part of the upgrade work, all hydraulic oil in the vessel’s cranes and A-frame has been replaced with biodynamically degradable and non-toxic Hydromax HT ECO.  M/V Steyer has also had an internal refit carried out by Fjellstrand Verft AS who installed a new crew room, wardrobe facilities and a new workshop.

M/V Steyer is owned by Haugaland Shipping AS and operated by Aqua Pharma AS, both part of the Aqua Pharma Group, which in turn is owned by Aquatiq AS and Solvay.
